Volunteer or Intern

You can help promote smart growth in Vermont by volunteering or serving as an intern.  We work to connect your skills, schedule and interests with our projects and needs.  Some projects are short-term, while others may require a particular time commitment.  Below is a description of some of our current volunteer opportunities.

If you are interested in serving as a volunteer, please call Serena Parnau at (802) 864-6310 or complete our volunteer profile form, and send it either via email or to 110 Main Street, Burlington, VT 05401.

Smart Growth Vermont's Internship Program offers undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of land use planning and development. This program enables students to work on specific projects, under the direction of Smart Growth Vermont's professional staff, to gain the maximum educational benefit to each participant.  Call us at (802) 864-6310 to discuss how we can help you create a unique and stimulating learning opportunity that meets your needs.

Thanks to Our Interns!

Volunteers and interns are crucial to the success of Smart Growth Vermont, so we are fortunate to have an energetic group of students who are currently working on several projects that contribute to our goal of reaching out to Vermont communities. Abby Farnham has been working with us since the summer of 2007, compiling data from a survey conducted in Bristol, one of our Partnership Communities. On March 18, in Bristol, Abby presented her results in a draft report to Planning officials.

Sarah Von Lehman, a recent graduate of UVM, is currently producing an online community resource guide, which will highlight the importance of buying fresh, local food and Vermont made products. And, Collin Ackerman, also a senior at UVM, is researching downtowns and village centers throughout Vermont and is helping us expand our photo library, by taking pictures and organizing our photo database.
