COMMUNITY PLANNING PARTNERSHIP
Town of Bristol

Upcoming Meetings and Quick Links
Bristol is a vibrant small town in eastern Addison County. Nestled at the foot of the Green Mountains, the town serves as a hub for a five-town region. Bristol Village is at the heart of the town, with shops, services, and neighborhoods all within walking distance.
Smart Growth Vermont has been working with the Town of Bristol since 2007 on town plan as well as zoning district and bylaw updates. We first assisted the Planning Commission with an evaluation and summary of a community-wide survey, provided an in-depth review of the draft plan to asses its consistency with smart growth principles, and prepared an implementation strategy for the Town.
The draft Town Plan, and a bylaw that outlined standards for gravel extraction, were voted down by Bristol voters in March 2010. The Planning Commission is now trying a more comprehensive approach. They are working on both updates to the districts and bylaws as well as the Town Plan. They have asked Smart Growth Vermont to help them look at the vision and goals the Town has developed and gather public input and guidance on how best to accomplish this and ensure consistency between districts.
Over the course of 2010 to 2011, we will work with the Planning Commission and the public to review districts, their uses and standards and compare these against the goals and objectives of the Town Plan. For more information on upcoming meetings, how to get involved and past documents, see "Quick Links."
